Professor Calogero Caruso

Professor Calogero Caruso
University of Palermo, Italy
'Ageing seems to be the only available way to live a long life.' Daniel Auber
Immunity & Ageing publishes articles on all aspects of ageing examined from an immunological point of view.
I am delighted to be the Editor in chief of Immunity and Ageing devoted to the role of natural and acquired immunity in successful and unsuccessful ageing of both human beings and experimental models. Whether your interests are immunological aspects of ageing, age-related diseases and longevity, this journal can serve as an appropriate venue.
Professor Calogero Caruso MD is an immunopathologist whose research interests are in Biogerontology, in particular in genotypic and phenotypic determinants involved in attainment of successful and unsuccessful ageing. In this field, his group was the first to demonstrate the role of cytokine anti-inflammatory genotype in achieving longevity, turning the attention of the related scientific community towards the opposite role of inflammatory mediator genotypes in longevity and age-related diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.
He is currently Full Professor of General Pathology and Director of Palermo University Medical School “Ippocrate”. As previously stated, his laboratory studies several aspects of ageing, in particular the role of B immunosenescence and immunogenetics in longevity (the model of centenarians and of their offspring) and Alzheimer’s diseases (the role of systemic inflammation and diet)
